About this assessment
Based on the author's book and biography pages, bibliographic records and the ebook table of contents. We have not completed a full-book review.
Who should consider it?
The Executive SEO Playbook is for organizations where SEO stalls because the teams whose work affects search are not accountable for it. Jessica Bowman wrote it for executives (the author names roles such as COO, CMO and CIO) and for the in-house SEO teams and non-SEO staff who carry out the work. The full subtitle is How to Integrate SEO Company-Wide for Increased Profitability. Author’s book page.
Bowman managed in-house SEO at Yahoo!, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Business.com before founding SEOinhouse.com in 2008. That background shows in the book’s focus on enterprise teams. Author biography.
What does it cover?
The 12 chapters move from diagnosing whether an organization leads or avoids SEO to a step-by-step integration plan. Along the way the book introduces an in-house framework the author calls F2R, ten “pillars” split between SEO strategy and SEO operations, a system of checks and balances, team building, training, and the operations of the SEO team itself. Two appendices list how-to resources and enterprise in-house links. Table of contents.
The listing states plainly that this is not an SEO how-to book. Expect guidance on roles, accountability and process rather than instructions for keyword research or technical fixes.
Edition and format details
SEOinhouse.com, the author’s own firm, published the first-edition hardcover in June 2017 at 198 pages (ISBN 9780998996646). Kindle and ePUB editions also exist. Danny Sullivan wrote the foreword. No later edition was found. Google Books record.
Who might choose something else?
- You need to do the SEO work yourself. Choose a practical reference such as The Art of SEO.
- You need to set SEO strategy rather than organize teams. Product-Led SEO focuses on what SEO should accomplish for the business.
- Your organization is asking about AI search. The 2017 text predates it. Compare the books in our AI-search reading guide, such as Ross Hudgens’ Generative Engine Optimization, which has a chapter on building a GEO-first organization.
Process advice ages more slowly than tactics, but check the appendix links and any tool or team-structure examples against current practice.
