About this assessment
Based on publisher metadata, the table of contents and selected pages from the author-hosted keyword-research sample. We have not completed a full-book review or tested the exercises.
Who should consider it?
Consider The Art of SEO when you want several SEO disciplines in one reference. Eric Enge, Stephan Spencer and Jessie Stricchiola wrote the fourth edition, published by O’Reilly in September 2023. Its breadth makes it a candidate for both structured learning and looking up unfamiliar topics. The publisher’s contents support this view of its scope.
What does it cover?
The contents move through search intent, keyword research and planning into site architecture, technical SEO and structured data. Later chapters address analytics, auditing, links and local search. There is also a dedicated generative AI chapter covering capabilities, prompting and limitations. See the chapter list.
What the sample shows
The public keyword-research sample moves from brainstorming into a working spreadsheet. It separates initial ideas from a refined plan, then connects terms to business priorities, topics and pages. The selected pages give a useful glimpse of the book’s practical detail: a reader is asked to organize decisions, as well as understand concepts. Chapter-six sample, printed pages 6–8.
Before you choose
Treat this as a substantial reference candidate. If you want an introductory learning path, also explore the Ahrefs beginner book and online guide. If your priority is deciding where to invest in SEO, compare the strategic focus of Product-Led SEO.
Our suggested reading approach is to choose one problem on your site and start with the relevant section. Check the edition when buying, and use current platform documentation alongside the 2023 text for instructions that depend on changing interfaces or search features.
