About these alternatives

Based on publisher and author information, contents and the sources listed below. We have not completed full reviews of these books.

Quick answer

For a deeper, edited reference across the same jobs, consider The Art of SEO. For a process you work through with assignments and current companion resources, Jason McDonald’s SEO Workbook is the closest substitute. For site audits specifically, look at Matthew Edgar’s Tech SEO Guide.

Why readers look for an alternative

The SEO Blueprint by Ryan Stewart and David Krevitt is a 275-page paperback self-published in February 2020 (ISBN 9780578230917). It is built on the workflow of Stewart’s former agency, WEBRIS, and the retailer description lists keyword selection, using competitor pages, choosing content, site auditing, prioritizing pages, site structure and link building decisions. Retailer description.

Readers look for alternatives for a few reasons:

  • Little to inspect before buying. No public table of contents or sample was found, so the topic list comes only from sales copy.
  • Uncertain extras. The description promises ongoing access to the authors’ tools and templates. We could not confirm that offer is still live.
  • Published in 2020. It predates Google’s helpful content changes and AI search, so checklists and tool references need checking against current guidance.
  • Name confusion. Several products share the title, including Glen Allsopp’s SEO Blueprint course. Open Library record.
  • Not for beginners. The description is written for readers ready to act on a process. A newcomer may do better with Peter Kent’s SEO For Dummies first.

Alternatives by reason

You want a deeper, edited reference

The Art of SEO by Eric Enge, Stephan Spencer and Jessie Stricchiola (O’Reilly, 4th edition, September 2023) is a 773-page reference. Its contents move from search intent and keyword research through site architecture, technical SEO and structured data to analytics, auditing, links and local search. Its public keyword-research sample shows planning worksheets. Publisher contents.

You want a process with assignments

Jason McDonald’s SEO Workbook (2025 edition) describes seven steps, chapter deliverables, worksheets, videos and quizzes. Its companion resources sit behind a password printed in the book, so confirm the edition you buy. Author’s description.

Site audits are your main job

Matthew Edgar’s Tech SEO Guide (Apress, February 2023) is a reference for developers and marketers. Its nine chapters cover crawling and indexing, URL organization, content structure, schema, sitemaps, page experience, missing-page errors and redirects, then close with an audit chapter. Publisher contents.

Garrett French and Eric Ward’s Ultimate Guide to Link Building (Entrepreneur Press, 2nd edition, 2020) focuses on prospecting: finding the people and publications in a market and working out what useful material could belong there. Pair it with Google’s current link spam policy, and see Ultimate Guide to Link Building alternatives for other books that cover links.

None of the books above was written for AI search. AI SEO for Dummies (Wiley For Dummies, 2026) covers visibility in AI-powered search, including AEO and GEO, step by step for business owners, SEO professionals and marketers, with a free companion toolkit of checklists, trackers and report templates. For a team-level program, Ross Hudgens’ Generative Engine Optimization (Wiley, 2026) covers GEO strategy, content, digital PR and organizing a GEO team.

Keep The SEO Blueprint if

Keep it if you already know SEO basics and want one agency’s opinionated order of operations: which keywords to tackle first, which pages not to build links to, how to audit a site and which pages to prioritize. Ahrefs includes it in its list of SEO books, and Julia McCoy wrote the foreword. Because the description leans on sales copy, judge it on how well its process fits your site, and check its 2020 checklists against current Google guidance before acting on them.
