About this comparison

Based on publisher and author information, contents and the sources listed below. We have not completed full reviews of these books.

Quick answer

Both books came out in 2020, but they serve different stages. Peter Kent’s SEO For Dummies (7th edition, Wiley) is a broad beginner introduction that maps the main jobs in SEO. Ryan Stewart and David Krevitt’s The SEO Blueprint (self-published) packages one agency’s workflow into a process for choosing keywords, deciding what to write and auditing a site. If you are starting out, read Kent; if you know the basics and want an order of operations to follow, read The SEO Blueprint.

What each book is about

SEO For Dummies is Peter Kent’s introduction in Wiley’s For Dummies series. His author page identifies the seventh edition, released in 2020, and lists resources chapter by chapter. The chapters start with search engines, search results and planning, move through keyword selection, page creation, speed, mobile design and structured data, then cover content, local search, indexing, links, images and video, with closing chapters on problems and staying informed. Earlier editions used the longer title Search Engine Optimization For Dummies. Author’s edition page.

The SEO Blueprint: How to Get More Organic Traffic Right NOW is a 275-page paperback by Ryan Stewart and David Krevitt, self-published in February 2020 (ISBN 9780578230917). It is not Glen Allsopp’s SEO Blueprint course or other books with the same title. Open Library record. The book is built on the workflow of Stewart’s former agency, WEBRIS, which the description says was acquired after about ten years of client work; Julia McCoy wrote the foreword. No public table of contents was found. The retailer description lists choosing and qualifying keywords, using competitor pages to rank for more terms, deciding what content to write, which pages not to build links to, site auditing with a list of errors that block page-one rankings, prioritizing high-potential pages and site structure for head terms. Retailer description.

Where they differ

Stage. Kent’s book builds a working vocabulary: how search engines, pages, speed, mobile design, structured data and links fit together. The SEO Blueprint assumes you are ready to act and focuses on decisions: which keywords first, what to write, which pages to prioritize and which to leave alone.

Breadth versus a path. SEO For Dummies covers more ground, including local search, images and video, and indexing. The SEO Blueprint is narrower and more opinionated, shaped by one agency’s client work.

Publisher and evidence. SEO For Dummies is a Wiley title with a chapter-by-chapter resource list on the author’s site. The SEO Blueprint is self-published with no public contents, so what we know comes from its retailer description, written as direct-response sales copy. It promises access to the authors’ tools and templates; we could not confirm that offer is still live.

Same era. Neither covers current AI search, and both predate Google’s helpful content changes. Check instructions against current documentation such as Google’s SEO Starter Guide.

Neither book was written for today’s AI search. If your question is how a business shows up in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI experiences, AI SEO for Dummies is a 2026 title in the same Wiley For Dummies series as Kent’s book, covering visibility in AI-powered search, including AEO and GEO. It is beginner-friendly and step by step, Wiley names business owners, marketers and SEO professionals as its readers, and a free companion toolkit includes a quickstart checklist, a First 30 Days worksheet and trackers, with no email required. It adds a subject rather than replacing a traditional introduction or an agency process.
